John Harmer: London based composer, filmmaker and musician.Re; Murakami Mirror by John Harmer.
"The novels of Murakami are both simple with descriptions of his characters clothes and the food they are eating, and profound, touching lightly on the mystery of existence and the relation between the dream world and the waking world. The idea of using a mirror to depict that relation, and sharpened pencils (which feature in "Kafka on the shore") occurred first. I composed the music first, enacted the tableau with the assistance of my wife on the slow motion camera. As the video was being recorded I was imagining that I was inside the mirror figure trying to get out and reach the real world, through touching the pencils."
